How to do Rome in a Day!

For those of you lucky enough to get to Italy there is so much to see and do. The canals of venice, the cliffside homes of the Amalfi Coast, the vineyards of Tuscany, the works of art in Florence and the historical beauty of Rome.

Rome is a wonderful historic, bustling City. Known as the “Eternal City” you can spend months in Rome and not see all the historical sites within the City. From the Cathedrals to Public Squares to Art Museums to ruins, there is more than you can imgine to visit.

Our staff at Orleans Travel & Cruise Centre have visited Rome on several occasions and have come up with an ideal way to see some of the
major attractions in 1 day. It will take precision to complete but we have done it to great success. The trip is based on you staying outside of Rome and you are coming in for the day to visit.

Start at the Battistini metro station (Metro line A) There is a parking lot appx 1 block away as well as plenty of street parking.
Buy a 24hr metro pass (appx 7.5 euro) and you are on your way!

Take the A line to Termini station (this is the central hub) and switch to the B line. Get off at the Colosseo metro stop. When you exit – The Colloseum awaits you! We recommend pre purchasing a front of the line tour ticket through our partners before you go so there is no standing in line.

Once you have finished the tour. Head back to the Colosseo station and get back to Termini.

Switch back to the A line and get off at Piazza Barberini stop. You now have a long U trip ahead of you. It’s a wonderful leisurely walk with plenty of places for a quick lunch and some souvenir shopping, don't forget a gelato. From the Barberini stop you are within 5 minutes of the Trevi fountain.

Take some pictures tossing some coins for luck then head towards the Parthenon. This is about a 15 minute walk. Watch for the street buskers and crafters enroute. Built in 120AD it is still the largets unsupported dome in the World. The occulus is almost 8 metre in diameter.

Once you have finished the Parthenon (the furthest attraction from the metro line) make your way back towards the Spanish steps. Always bustling and surrounded by high end stores; this is a great place to grab a refreshment. Close to the Spanish steps is the Spagna metro stop, make your way there and head back towards the A line battistini stop.

Get off at the Ottaviano stop. Here you can walk to the Castel Sant’Angelo and Hadrians Bridge. The cylindrical tomb of emperor Hadrian was made famous in the Dan Brown thriller “ Angels & Demons.” Make your way to St Peters Basilica (about a 15 minute walk). See the tombs of the Popes and shop in the only official papal gift Shop. Stand in awe at the artwork and gilded painting of the Basilica.

Head back to the Octaviano metro station and continue back to the Battistini A line stop. As you head out back to your car, pay it forward and give your metro pass to someone. Show them how nice people can be! There you did it! Lots of attractions, some food, lots of culture and most importantly lots of memories!
